Water Under the Franklin St Bridge

"Water Under the Franklin St. Bridge" is a late 2024 distemper work. Inspired by his occupation as a river boat tour guide, Johnston drew on his unique perspective on and around the Chicago River. Inspired by the techniques of Edouard Vuillard, the satin texture of the paint belies the reflective subject matter. Hand-crafting the distemper using pigments aquired from the artist's family buisness, this piece is a reflection (pun intended) on the working class life and the beauty found within.
